Together, the group successfully creates a teleportation device capable of transporting matter to another dimension. Excited by the breakthrough, several members of the team secretly test the machine themselves. However, the mission quickly becomes catastrophic.

Exposure to mysterious energy during the expedition permanently alters the group, granting each individual extraordinary abilities while also leaving them emotionally and physically changed.

This darker origin story gives Fantastic Four a more experimental science-fiction atmosphere compared to earlier adaptations of the characters.

Powers That Change Everything
